Imagine your fingers slipping across sea glass, salt clinging to your hair, and the hush of the ocean all around. In this prompt, you step into the shimmering, shifting skin of a selkie - a seal who becomes human on land but always feels the pull of the sea.

“A selkie writes to their human lover from beneath the sea, describing the underwater world they have returned to. The tides are calling them back, but their heart still aches for the shore. Will they return to land someday? Or will the ocean claim them forever?"

Today's Fantasy Letter-Writing Prompt:

"A young dragon has just claimed their very first hoard. Overwhelmed, they write to an elder dragon asking for advice: How do you protect your treasure? How do you handle the loneliness of guarding it? How do you know what to collect - gold, books, rare tea cups, or something else entirely?"

Perhaps you are this young dragon, curled around a small pile of shiny coins and feeling both thrilled and terrified.

Perhaps you are the wise, ancient dragon perched on a mountain peak, responding with centuries of harsh truths or gentle guidance.

Or maybe you're a curious bard or a daring thief who stumbles upon one of these letters and decides to answer, uninvited …

1. Be Kind

Scale mail is a place for imagination and connection. We encourage playful rivalries, fictional threats, and in-character sass - but behind every letter is a real human heart.

• Speak (and write) with warmth and care, whether you are a villain or a valiant hero.
• If you feel unsure whether something might hurt or offend, err on the side of kindness.
• Support each other’s creativity and encourage new writers, no matter how fiery or shy their first words may be.

2. Be Respectful

Remember that every participant comes from a different background and has their own comfort levels.

• Respect personal boundaries, both in-character and out-of-character.
• Avoid using real-life personal information unless clearly agreed upon.
